Why “High Vibe Living” Is Really About Nervous System Regulation, Not Woo


When I first heard people talking about “energy,” I honestly thought it was something mystical.

I was at a workshop years ago, and the facilitator had us rub our hands together for a bit, then slowly pull them apart. She told us to pay attention to the space between our palms.

When I felt that gentle resistance, that almost invisible pressure, I remember thinking, Oh my god… my hands have energy.

Looking back now, I smile at that moment. Not because it was silly, but because it was the first time I really noticed something that had always been there.

Of course our hands have energy. Of course we have energy.

Energy isn’t something special that shows up only in spiritual moments or workshops. It’s not something you have to believe in.

It’s something your body is doing all the time.


What Energy Really Is (And Why It’s Not Mystical)

When I talk about energy, vibration, or frequency, I’m not talking about anything abstract or woo.

I’m talking about your nervous system in action.

Your body is constantly responding to information. Sounds. Light. Color. Smell. Movement. Thoughts. Memories. Tone of voice. Environment.

Your nervous system takes all of that in and decides what state to put you in.

Calm.

Alert.

Overstimulated.

Focused.

Anxious.

Regulated.

Drained.

Those states are what people often describe as “energy.”

So when someone says they feel low-energy or high-vibe, what they’re really describing is how regulated, supported, and resourced their system feels in that moment.


The Role of the Subconscious Mind

Here’s where the subconscious comes in.

Your subconscious mind is the part of you that’s constantly scanning for cues. It doesn’t operate through logic or reason. Its primary job is safety.

It asks questions like:

Is this familiar?

Is this safe?

Is this threatening?

Do I need to prepare?

And it answers those questions incredibly fast, using past experience, learned associations, and pattern recognition.

Your nervous system then responds accordingly.

That response is your state.

Your state is your energy.


Why “Raising Your Vibration” Actually Makes Sense

When people talk about raising their vibration, what they’re often really wanting is:

• to feel steadier

• to feel clearer

• to have more emotional bandwidth

• to stop feeling constantly on edge or depleted

• to have more available energy for life


From a practical standpoint, raising your vibration means increasing regulation, safety, and coherence in your system.

It means your nervous system isn’t constantly bracing, scanning, or recovering.

That’s not mystical.

That’s biology.


How Environment Shapes Energy

One of the most overlooked pieces in conversations about energy is environment.

Your subconscious is picking up on far more than you’re consciously aware of.

Clutter.

Harsh lighting.

Muted or overstimulating colors.

Noise.

Visual chaos.

Objects tied to stress or unfinished tasks.


Your conscious mind may ignore these things, but your nervous system doesn’t.

It responds anyway.


That’s why one room can feel calming and another can feel draining, even if you can’t explain why. Your system is reading information below conscious awareness and adjusting your state accordingly.

This is also why energy feels different from person to person. Two people can walk into the same space and have very different reactions, because their subconscious associations are different.


High Vibe Living, Reframed

This is how I see high vibe living.

Not as constant positivity.

Not as bypassing hard emotions.

Not as pretending life is calm when it isn’t.


High vibe living is about learning how your nervous system works and creating conditions that support it.

That includes:

• how you speak to yourself

• what you surround yourself with

• how your home is set up

• what you expose yourself to daily

• how much stimulation your system is carrying


When your system feels supported, your energy naturally rises because nothing is pulling it down.
